In 1962, Tracy Turnblad, a large girl with big hair and a kind heart, has only one passion - to dance. She wins a spot on a local TV dance program, and is quickly transformed into a teen celebrity. While fun and over the top, Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960's. The songs include 60's style dance music and "downtown" rhythm and blues.
