Our Community
Our Town is built on over 125 years of rich history and tradition. Southern Pines today is a thriving and diverse community of approximately 12,736 residents and encompassing 16.65 square miles. Located in the southern end of Moore County, NC, we are centrally nestled in the Sandhills and within easy driving distance of Charlotte, Fayetteville, and the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill triangle.
Visitors from all over the region and beyond come to Southern Pines for our locally-owned boutique shopping, unique dining options, splendid historical sites, and exciting outdoor activities – including equestrian sports, biking, and world-class golfing.
Being a Resident
Residents are citizens who live within the town limits of Southern Pines, and they are entitled to all of the town’s services and programs for free or at “resident” rates, such as summer camps offered by our Recreation and Parks Department or a library card for the Southern Pines Public Library. The town also provides utilities, public works, police and fire services, and municipal oversight to the areas where residents live.
Nonresidents
Nonresidents are often welcome to use town services, but because they do not pay the municipality taxes that support these programs, they are requested to pay a slightly higher fee when using our services. Depending on the citizen’s address, water, and sewer services may also be provided by the municipality.
Determining Residency
If you are not sure if you are a resident and would like to find out, please use our interactive mapping site. Once you log in according to the instructions, you can search for your address in the left-hand section, and in the right-hand section, make sure that “City Limits” is checked. You will then be able to see if your address is located within the town’s borders.
If you are a nonresident and you would like to find out if you are currently using some town utilities, please contact the Billing and Collections Department at 910-692-2206.
